Overview

Safely uncover underground utilities with the AirSpade 5000 Utility Series -- the latest innovation in the AirSpade product line. Featuring an in-line style handle, AirSpade 5000 Utility is designed for air excavation applications where gripping the tool in a vertical position is preferred.
AirSpade 5000 Utility harnesses the power of compressed air by incorporating the high-performance, proprietary AirSpade Supersonic Nozzle. Fabricated from non-sparking bronze, the nozzle generates a laser-like air jet that moves at twice the speed of sound for faster, more effective digging.
Rugged, lightweight aluminum handle features full-size grip opening to accommodate linesman's gloves. Comfortable plastic grip provides thermal protection and a degree of electrical insulation. Dead-man trigger ensures safe operation and trigger guard prevents accidental activation. Integral pressure gauge ensures optimal digging performance. 3/4" NPT compressed air inlet equipped with 3/4" swivel-type Universal Coupler.
Screw-on, electrically insulated fiberglass barrel rated to 300kV protects operators from buried, high-voltage utility lines. Brass barrel sleeves and connectors minimize sparking potential. Adjustable, rubber dirt shield deflects soil and debris. Detachable, auxiliary handle included.

Which AirSpade series is right for me?

The right series depends on your application, preferred handle style, and compressor capacity. The 2000 Series is designed for arbor and landscape work, the 4000 Series is built for utility excavation, and the 5000 Series features an inline handle design and is available in both Arbor and Utility configurations. What size air compressor do I need?

Your compressor should be rated higher than the AirSpade nozzle you are using. Using a compressor that is too small will reduce performance. See our Compressed Air Requirements Guide.

What size nozzle should I use?

Nozzle selection depends on the desired excavation rate and available airflow. Larger nozzles excavate faster but require more air. Read more on Digging with AirSpade.

In what types of soil will an AirSpade work?

AirSpade works in most soils, including compacted and hard clay. It is generally not effective in solid rock or hard frozen ground. Learn more in our Soil Characteristics Guide.

What size air hose do I need?

Air hose size affects pressure and performance. For most AirSpade applications, 1-inch ID hose or larger is recommended. See our Compressed Air Requirements Guide.

Will higher pressure make the AirSpade work better?

No. AirSpade nozzles are designed to operate optimally at 90 psig. Higher pressure can actually reduce performance while consuming more air.
